Free Picnic Bench Plans
This bench will look very similar to the one that's being sold here for $99. You can always buy the ready one if you prefer. But if you are a DIY fan, below are the plans to build a very similar bench.
The dimensions of the bench on our plans are 60" long X 15" wide X 18" high (150 cm X 36 cm X 45cm)
- 3 boards 5" wide x 60 " long (12 cm / 150 cm)
- 2 boards 4" wide x 56 " long (10 cm / 140 cm)
- 2" x 2.5" beams:
- 4 pieces x 17"
- 5 pieces x 8"
- 1 piece x 56"
- 15 screws
Let's start building:
Prepare two vertical openings in each of the four legs of the bench as shown in the picture. We'll use "tongue and groove" joining between most elements here. So see how the horizontal joists need to be cut to form a groove so they can be attached to the legs. The bottom two horizontal supports will also need a groove in the middle so the bottom long joist can go there.
Using the tongues and groove created in step 1, attach the horizontal supports to the four legs of the bench.
Now it's time to attach both pairs of legs to the rest of the bench skeleton. For clarity tongue and groove is not shown on this picture but it's recommended to use this method and then enforce the construction with screws.
The three 5" X 60" boards will form the seat of the bench. Attach to the skeleton with screws. Use screws with hidden heads so one can sit on the bench comfortable without tearing skirt or pants.
Your bench is ready. Paint it if you wish.
